Några snabba - Hail the Night

Thorn: Thank you
Recensenten från Heldvete: You don't typically see very many black metal bands coming out of the united states. How did you guys come up with your sound and your style?
Thorn: Well we give praise and respect to alot of the bands in Norway and Sweden who pioneered the "black metal" sound like Bathory, Burzum, Dark Throne and Dark Funeral but we also have our American roots and influences from bands like Slayer and Metallica, as well as punk rock roots from bands like the Misfits and Black Flag. So we definitely have a lot of styles and influences that make up who we are and we try to let that reflect in the music. So I guess you could say we are kind of an "american bastardized black metal band".....hahaha, that label doesn't bother me.
Recensenten från Heldvete: How do you think Hail The Nights music compares with some of the older more underground black metal bands like you mentioned?
Thorn: Well, like I said we respect those bands very much. I think the term "black metal" and the ideas that surround it mean many different things to lots of different people. For us it is about our disgust for American culture and a society that brainwashes everything we see, hear, and learn. It is about getting back in touch with the more primitive side of metal. It is about purity in its simplest and most raw form. It is about embracing darkness as well as light and finding beauty in this. It is about regaining pride as a culture that has been lost and diluted by hip hop, nu metal, and emo rock which is what American radio spoon feeds us on a daily basis and tells us we have to like it. It is about saying fuck your organized religions. We will believe in ourselves first above all other things! Also, I think that one key element that sets Hail The Night a part from some of the older more obscure black metal bands is the production of the music. For many years it seemed liked the more low fidelity and shitty sounding your black metal record was, the more respect you got. I absolutely love songs like Shadow Of The Horn by Dark Throne but would i make a record that sounded like that today? Absolutely not! LCF and I both went to engineering school and even though we never have any money in our budget to record a big album, we try to do our best to make the record sound as big and power full as it possibly can while still maintaining a true and honest feel to the music.

Recensenten från Heldvete: Do you have any plans to tour soon?
Thorn: We love to tour and if we had our way, we would never come home. We just finished our CD a few weeks ago so right now we are at the stage where we are talking to a few record companies and booking agents to see what we need to do in order to get on the road. We really want to get over to Europe and play for you guys! We are just kind of waiting to see what happens at this point but if the right tour presented itself to us, we would definitely go!Recensenten från Heldvete: What sort of things do you like to write about lyrically?
Thorn: Well obviously I tend to write a lot about anti religion, paganism, nature, and pretty much anything dark or morbid. It has to be something that catches my attention and inspires me...for example I was watching a great documentary on the the serial killer BTK so I ended up writing the song "Death Fetish" as a type of homage to him.
Recensenten från Heldvete: What can we expect from a Hail The Night show?
Thorn: HTN fans are the absolute most sickest and loyal fans on the planet and we do not want to disappoint them. You can expect to see blood, you can expect to see violence, you can expect to see and hear blasphemy, you will see wounds from the mosh pits, you will see 5 black metal warriors spreading utter and total chaos and pouring our souls into every performance. We give everything we have to our live performances!
Recensenten från Heldvete: What is it like for you guys to work in the recording studio?
Thorn: Well, initially, LCF and I wrote all the songs for the current CD but now it is pretty much open to whoever has a solid idea to present it to the group and then we go from there. As of this moment, we are an unsigned band so I would say about 90% of this CD was done at my apartment. We don't have a lot of money or anything but the equipment that we do have, we try to push it to its limits and get the best sound we can. But me personally, I love being in the recording studio. It really gives me us a chance to be creative in a way that you can't express in a live performance.
Recensenten från Heldvete: Do you have any crazy fan stories for us?
Thorn: Hahaha.....no but we have had a few Christian protesters!
Recensenten från Heldvete: Who is your favorite metal band of all time?
Thorn: I love so many different bands and different styles of metal but I would say it would have to be a tie between Black Sabbath and Slayer.
